“My family background is rooted in Care and I started straight from College. I began my working career in a Care Home and absolutely loved it! There was a wide range of Clients with varying needs at the Home and it was a great start and immersive experience. I initially wanted to be a Nurse and was involved in Bank working in nursing for Hospitals. A relocation changed plans slightly and I worked with my Mother in end-of-life care – this ensured that I used new skills and gained a better understanding of Care. Prior to Radfield Home Care, I worked at a locally based Retirement Village and Home.”
What has inspired you to want to be involved in the adult social care sector?
“Definitely my Mother! She has spent her life dedicated to Care and that equally inspired me. My love of the caring and nurturing side of client and patient relationships comes from her.”
Why Radfield Home Care?
“I immediately liked the ethos of the Company and on first meeting the Directors I knew that they held the same values and passion for Care that I did. It has been a really good fit for me.”
How did you get to hear about the job opportunity?
“I initially saw the position advertised on Indeed, I had a successful interview but conditions weren’t right for me to leave my then job. Jeremy and Ann contacted me again a few months later and happily, I was ready and able to move to Radfield.”
Note from Jeremy and Anne, directors at Radfield Home Care Chippenham & North Wiltshire: “We were absolutely sure we wanted Gemma to be on board with us so we played a patient waiting game!”
What are your career aspirations?
“I have a young family but I am also very career focussed. One of the (many) reasons that I would like to come back to Radfield is, with their support, to continue my practical and theoretical learning and look to study for Level 4 qualifications.”
Any special moments with clients you would like to share?
“There are always lots of little moments every day. People share so many great stories and tales during our visits – we are constantly surprised and impressed by the awesome things that our Clients have lived and done. One of the best things about Care is simply listening to people and taking the time to talk, laugh and support.”
What do you love most about your job and working for Radfield Home Care?
“Time! The Company ensures that, wherever possible, Clients have long call times. This means there is always some extended social time to build relationships and develop lovely companionship visits.
We have great continuity too – we know all the Clients well and they appreciate that they have smaller dedicated teams visiting them. It’s really rewarding watching them thrive with our assistance and when they are not so well they know that they can rely on us for special care.
Ethos and values mean a lot to me and I know that we always work well in the best interests of our Clients – everyone is involved on a daily basis.”
It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Gemma on our team and we can’t wait to see her popping into the office with her beautiful bouncing baby very soon.
