It can be a really rewarding experience to care for someone who matters to you – a family member, a friend, someone in your community. We believe everyone who provides care to someone else in whatever way is doing something amazing. Let’s be honest, it can be hard work at times and it’s important to look after yourself as well as others.
People come into carer roles in all sorts of different ways and the impact it has on them can also show up in many ways. It comes with many rewards, for sure, and it is also not without its challenges. Caring for someone else can be a big commitment, in terms of time, physically and emotionally. Often there are other priorities to juggle, trade-offs to be made and that’s not always easy.
We respect and champion every single carer, whatever the circumstances. And we understand what it takes and what it means. That’s why we offer respite care services, which enable a main carer to take a break and spend time in other ways. This can be on a regular basis – a couple of hours a week, or every weekend, for example – to get out to the shops, see friends or just sit and read a book in a café.
And it can also be on an ad hoc basis, available whenever it’s needed. This is sometimes interim care when the main carer goes away for whatever reason and we provide either full support during that time, or just pop in visits for peace of mind, whatever is required.
Rest is really important. To be strong for someone else, first, you need to be strong in yourself. We know that because we’re carers ourselves. We make sure our carers are well looked after and that’s why we are completely dedicated to providing respite care services that support other carers.
If you’re caring for someone else and would like to talk to us about all the ways we could give you some extra support we’d love to help. Get in touch with your local Radfield team today and let’s have a chat about the ways Radfield Home Care can offer you some respite care support.
