The new year can find more of us on the search for new job opportunities. “New year new career” has a nice ring to it in our heads but what should we be prioritising when beginning the search for a new job or considering a complete career change?
If you are looking at a career change, you may fear that you will also have to change. This is not necessarily the case. There are roles out there that want you just the way you are. Your empathy, your passion, your quirks, and your will to make a difference; you have a lot to offer and don’t need a long resume to prove it.
At Radfield Home Care, we are of course advocates of working in care and transforming people’s lives as a Care Professional, but let’s be honest. A career in care is not for everyone and that is okay. What is important, is finding a place that clicks, where you can develop both personally and professionally through training and dedicated support.
This is why we are enormously proud to say 92% of our Care Professionals said they would recommend Radfield as a place to work.*
If you are going to change career path, there are a few things you need to consider. The immediate consideration may be qualifications and experience, especially if you are job hunting in a new sector. If this is the case, it is worth looking at roles that require no experience and offer on-the-job training.
While this is a good place to start, the trick to finding a satisfying career, is to find somewhere where you can make the difference you wish to make as a human being. That difference will change from person to person, either way, it is worth taking a look at the employer’s website and social media accounts.
Ask yourself, have they got a pledge or policy dedicated to the wellbeing of their team? Do they have case studies about their services and/or products that show how the company directly affects people’s day-to-day lives?
Care Professionals in the Radfield network are big believers in the services they provide, helping people age well at home. 94% said they would recommend Radfield to family and friends who need care.*
If you are looking at how to change career, it is worth considering vacancies that offer on-the-job training. There are many benefits of on the job training, the main one being that you can jump straight into a paid position with no experience.
The process also allows you to develop within a team who have either gone through the same training or are in the same boat as yourself, giving you like-minded people to turn to. At Radfield Home Care, we offer bespoke career progression support and training up to NVQ Level 5.
From our latest Care Professional survey, we discovered that 94% of Care Professionals in our network believe the training we provide is high quality and accessible. 89% also said they feel they have been given opportunities to develop, and 92% feel supported and receive regular supervision.* Click here for more on our Care Professional training.
Working in a care home or as a home Care Professional is not for everyone. That is the truth. Like all roles, there are ups and there are downs. If you were to enter the sector, it is worth finding what motivates you to work in care.
For Emma Wilson, Care Professional at our Wakefield & Huddersfield office, it is about the impact on clients’ lives. She said:
“I’ve found that helping clients to maintain their independence and remain in their own homes is extremely rewarding, and knowing that you are making a difference to their day provides a real sense of achievement.”
