An inspection-style system -similar to that rolled out across hospitals a year ago – will be extended to the care sector in the autumn. Hannah MacKechnie, co-founder of Radfield Home Care, is backing the latest news and explains how the reforms will provide greater peace of mind for individuals and their loved ones.
“Undercover media investigations and reports have exposed a number of abuse and neglect cases over the past few years, which have unfortunately impaired the reputation of responsible companies and individuals in the care sector. This in-turn has affected the perception held by the public of the care industry, and made those using the services more conscious about the care provided.
“The proposed reforms will provide a benchmark to ensure care homes and home care providers are adhering to industry regulations, as well as recognising them if they do go above and beyond. It’s anticipated that the rating system will mark companies from outstanding to inadequate, so it will not only distinguish the isolated few care providers that do need to rapidly improve, but also offer elderly individuals and families the peace of mind when choosing the right residential home or service for them or their loved ones.”
