On 15th November, Radfield Home Care York, Thirsk & Ryedale proudly launched its first-ever Day Centre session, offering a welcoming and supportive space for older people in York and the surrounding areas to connect, engage in enjoyable activities, and create meaningful memories. This new Day Centre provides respite care in York for families and reflects our ongoing commitment to enhancing the wellbeing of older people in the local community, while also offering valuable support for family carers in York.
The Day Centre session began at 10am at the Heslington Meeting Hall, where the spacious venue was transformed into a cosy, living-room-like setting. Led by Sophie and Zoe, two dedicated members of the Radfield Home Care team, the location was carefully arranged to create a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Clients from York, Thirsk, and Ryedale were greeted with music, coffee, and refreshments, setting the tone for a friendly and welcoming day. The setup ensured that all attendees felt comfortable and ready to engage in activities designed to enhance their well being and provide valuable respite for their families.
The activities planned for the Day Centre session were designed to offer both creativity and fun, providing something for everyone. The morning began with pottery painting, an activity that was particularly popular among attendees. Clients had the chance to express their creativity, and as they did so, new friendships blossomed. Engaging in these activities created a social environment where people could connect over shared interests. For those looking for some friendly competition, lively games of Dominoes added a layer of enjoyment to the day.
At midday, clients enjoyed a short stroll to a local pub for lunch, allowing for a change of scenery and the opportunity to enjoy a meal in a relaxed and sociable environment. The outing helped foster a sense of connection and engagement while giving clients a chance to chat with the pub’s landlord.
The afternoon offered a hands-on gardening activity, where clients potted bulbs and discussed different types of flowers. The session concluded with engaging games and one-on-one activities, ensuring everyone felt included and supported. At 4pm, all clients departed with smiles and their beautifully crafted plant pots in hand.
Building on the success of the Day Centre launch, Radfield Home Care York, Thirsk & Ryedale is excited to announce the next session: a festive Christmas Special on 13th December. This event will feature seasonal activities, refreshments, and a wonderful opportunity for clients to celebrate the holiday spirit in good company. It’s the perfect chance to enjoy the festive season, make new connections, and engage in seasonal fun with old friends and new.
