Radfield Home Care Harrogate, Wetherby & North Yorkshire have teamed up with Radfield Home Care York, Thirsk & Ryedale to bring the community a brand new dementia training programme for Care Professionals and community partners despite Covid-19 threatening to put the brakes on the specially developed, new initiative.
The team will cover the North Yorkshire region, where they deliver care to almost 100 older people. The new training has been developed to provide care teams with a ‘real life’ experience of someone with dementia.
Matthew Nutting, Director of Radfield Home Care Harrogate, Wetherby & North Yorkshire says:
“We help a lot of clients experiencing dementia and it’s vital that we give our staff a broad understanding of what a client may be going through. With this in mind, we’ve created a unique, interactive training programme aimed at simulating the symptoms of dementia, to help Care Professionals relate to a clients’ needs and feelings.”
Ed Gill, Director of Radfield Home Care York, Thirsk & Ryedale goes on to say:
“The original plan was to host training sessions in person, every month. Unfortunately, the recent rise in the Omicron variant of Covid-19 meant we had to rethink our approach. Instead, we decided to move the training online. We could have delayed the roll out until the infection numbers declined, but we felt the training was too important to put off. With this in mind, we trialled the courses online so that our teams can access the courses immediately.
“The first day of training for our Care Professionals starts February 10th. Following that, we’re hoping to roll out the programme for free to our community partners and other people in the area that could find some benefits from joining a specialist dementia training course.”
Radfield Home Care focuses heavily on delivering support, training and development opportunities to everyone in the team, from Care Professionals to office staff. This ensures that everyone is delivering the best possible care to clients. This training is being offered to the North Yorkshire community to thank, support and recognise not just Care Professionals, but unpaid carers, voluntary services, struggling families and anyone caring for those experiencing dementia in the area.
