At Radfield Home Care Wakefield & Huddersfield, we are committed to supporting older adults in staying connected to the things that matter most. As part of our ongoing mission to help our nation age well, we’re excited to spotlight the monthly Friendship Lunch held at Ossett Cricket Club. Held on the first Thursday of every month, this event brings people together to enjoy delicious food, share meaningful conversations, and create lasting memories.
In collaboration with Ossett Cricket Club and their Lunch and Natter initiative, along with the Cater Hub, the Friendship Lunch goes beyond just providing a meal—it’s a chance for people to connect, laugh, and form new friendships in a warm, welcoming environment. We believe that social engagement is essential to a happy, healthy life, especially as we age. Through this initiative, we aim to combat loneliness and encourage a sense of belonging within the community. These events provide things to do in Wakefield for older adults, creating meaningful connections that help enrich their lives.
Each month, we enhance the experience with fun activities, light-hearted entertainment, and engaging conversation starters. The Friendship Lunch creates a space where the community can feel comfortable and cared for, while building connections that extend beyond the event itself. These types of events are part of our larger effort to support older adults in Wakefield and Huddersfield, offering meaningful opportunities for companionship and socialisation.
Rachael Smith, our Community Engagement Officer at Radfield Home Care Wakefield & Huddersfield, shares her thoughts on the importance of this initiative:
“Loneliness can be a big challenge in our community, especially for older adults. Events like these give people a reason to smile, connect, and truly enjoy themselves. I absolutely love being part of this initiative and I am proud of the difference it makes to our lovely community. ”
The Lunch and Natter initiative at Ossett Cricket Club has become a cornerstone for community connection in Wakefield. This weekly event, held every Thursday, offers people in the community the opportunity to come together to enjoy a hearty meal, share stories, and engage with others in a relaxed atmosphere. The gathering helps reduce the social isolation that many older adults face, giving them a chance to engage in stimulating conversation and build friendships that contribute to improved mental health and happiness. Social events in Wakefield like this are vital for combating loneliness and ensuring older adults remain engaged in their community.
If you’re in the Ossett area, we warmly invite you to join us for the next Friendship Lunch. The event is open to everyone, whether you’re looking to make new friends, reconnect with old ones, or simply enjoy a lovely afternoon with others. The Friendship Lunch is more than just a meal—it’s a way of coming together to support one another and create a more connected, fulfilling community for older adults.
Let’s make every Thursday a day to cherish!
