Bringing his unique heritage and language, Shona, Bevan found a new and innovative way to connect with his client, Madeleine. From the onset, Madeleine showed great interest in Bevan’s origins. This spark of curiosity ignited a beautiful bond between them.
Care Professional Bevan noted that teaching Madeleine some basic words in Shona could be a fun and unique way to engage and connect. For Madeleine, who lives with Parkinson’s, this language learning not only served as a cultural exchange but also as a memory booster. Alzheimer’s Society research indicates that stimulating activities like learning a new language can enhance cognitive abilities.
Over the past few months, Madeleine has learned more Shona words and embraced this new cultural experience wholeheartedly. Her enthusiasm extended to writing Christmas greetings in Shona for Bevan, a gesture that thrilled him and cemented their connection.
