Cognitive Stimulation Therapy, Day Care Centre, and Awards in Leicester East, Groby & Oadby

As we reach the midpoint of the year, I am delighted to share some highlights of our achievements and developments. Our commitment to excellence and continuously striving to improve our services has yielded remarkable results, and I would like to take a moment to reflect on our progress.

Outstanding Customer Satisfaction

First and foremost, we are thrilled to report exceptional levels of customer satisfaction. We have continued to maintain our customer satisfaction score of 9.9 out of 10 at homecare.co.uk. We are also proud to
have contributed to Radfield Home Care’s overall win as Top 20 Home Care Group award for the sixth consecutive year. Your positive feedback and ongoing support inspire us to continually enhance our services. We are grateful for the trust you place in us and remain dedicated to meeting and exceeding your expectations.

Introduction of Day Centre Services

As from this June, we proudly launched our new day centre services at the East Goscote Village Hall, every Wednesday from 10 am to 2 pm. The day centre is designed to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for yourself or loved ones. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and we are excited to see how this addition will continue to benefit our community. We have started to get more interest from the public so if this is something you would like to trial please get in touch with a member of our team.

Positive Staff Feedback

Our team is the backbone of our organisation, and we are pleased to report excellent feedback from our staff. During our recent anonymised staff survey, which is run twice a year, 100% of our staff strongly agreed “that they enjoy and feel proud to work for Radfield Home Care.” Their satisfaction and morale are higher than ever, reflecting our commitment to creating a supportive and rewarding workplace. This positive atmosphere enables us to deliver the best possible care and service to you.

Community Partnerships

We recently started a collaboration with Syston & District volunteer centre to offer transport services to the elderly on a volunteer basis. We hope that by increasing such community partnerships, we are able to offer more comprehensive and integrated services. These partnerships enhance our ability to serve you better and contribute to the overall well-being of our community.
In conclusion, we are proud of the strides we have made so far this year. We remain focused on our mission to provide top-notch care and services, and we are excited about the future. Thank you for being a part of our journey.

We are excited to share the remarkable progress of our day centre in its first few weeks of operation. The response from our clients and their families has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the safe and engaging environment we provide.
Laura, Alison and the team have successfully implemented a variety of enriching activities and programs tailored to the needs and interests of our participants. Attendance has steadily increased, and we are thrilled to see new friendships forming and a strong sense of community developing. The early success of the day centre reaffirms our commitment to enhancing the well-being and quality of life for all those we serve.

The general programme for the day centre starts with teas and coffees to kick start the day, followed by some lovely activities, quizzes or creative crafts based on various themes such as bug houses, seed bombs, paper origami. Kinds of Queniborough deliver hot lunch and dessert. The afternoon consists of physical games such as seated table tennis, parachute games, bean bag toss. It tends to get competitive between players but everyone gets involved to their abilities. To finish off the day, the attendees are served with tea, coffee and snacks. We have shared some pictures for you to see the various things that we have been up to over the past few weeks.

Be There award

For those that may recall during our last issue, we had written an article about how we supported an existing client deal with the loss of her beloved companion dog, Amber. The client lives with dementia and it was immediately clear to the team that she had a special bond with her dog, Amber. Amber was an old Golden Retriever with sight loss and the pair were inseparable, to the point the care team would joke that they were getting in the way of Amber’s care. Despite the dementia, the client always had time for Amber and referred to her as “My Treasure”. Sadly, in late 2023, Amber passed away. Knowing how upsetting and confusing this would be for the client, the care team came
together to build a memorial to Amber in the client’s garden, Amber’s final resting place.
The moment was put forward along with dozens of other entries from across the Radfield Home Care network, and at the awards ceremony. Touched by the emotional and impactful moment, our very own branch was awarded as the overall winner to recognise the outstanding work of the care team.

Sona describes her delight at being named the winner:

“The team and I are so proud to have won the Be There award which is so special as it represents to us what care should be about. I am honoured that the team’s hard work and relentless pursuit to make the lives of our clients better everyday has been recognised through this award. This accomplishment was a team effort and the entire team deserves the recognition for this win.”

Forget Me Not sessions

At Radfield Home Care Leicester East, Groby & Oadby, we are dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of those affected by dementia. Our latest initiative, offering sessions formatted in line with Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST), is designed to support individuals with dementia and their carers through meaningful and engaging activities.

What is Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST)?

Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) is an evidence-based, non-pharmacological intervention for people with mild to moderate dementia. Developed through extensive research, CST involves structured group sessions that focus on stimulating cognitive function through themed activities and discussions. These sessions aim to improve mental abilities and enhance the quality of life for participants.

Why CST Matters

Dementia is a progressive condition that affects memory, thinking, behaviour, and the ability to perform everyday activities. While there is no cure for dementia, interventions like CST can significantly improve the lives of those affected. Research has shown that CST can lead to improvements in cognitive function, communication skills, and overall well-being. Moreover, it provides social interaction and emotional support, which are crucial for both individuals with dementia and their carers.

Our CST Sessions: What to Expect

At Radfield Home Care Leicester East, Groby & Oadby, our CST-themed sessions are designed to be engaging, enjoyable, and therapeutic. We even have a name for our group, “The Forget me Nots”.

Our sessions are run every fortnight on a Wednesday at the Birstall Methodist Church from 10.30 am to 12.00 noon. The sessions are for those with mild to mid stages of dementia to attend with their carers.

Here’s what participants can expect:

Structured Sessions:
Each CST session follows a structured format with a clear theme, such as childhood, food, or current affairs. This structure helps participants to feel secure and confident.
Group Activities:
Activities include word games, puzzles, creative expression, reminiscence, and practical tasks. These activities are tailored to stimulate various cognitive functions, including memory, attention, and problem-solving.
Social Interaction:
Group settings provide a supportive environment where participants can share experiences, build friendships, and feel a sense of community.
Carer Involvement:
We recognise the vital role carers play in the lives of those with dementia. Our sessions also provide a space for carers to connect, share insights, and gain support from others in similar situations.

The Impact of Our CST Program

100% of our attendees are satisfied with the sessions that we run amongst other benefits such as:

  • Enhanced Cognitive Function: Regular engagement in cognitive activities can help maintain mental abilities and slow the progression of dementia symptoms.
  • Improved Quality of Life: Participants often report a greater sense of purpose, enjoyment, and satisfaction from taking part in CST sessions.
  • Stronger Social Connections: Both individuals with dementia and their carers benefit from the social aspects of CST, reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness.

Join Us

We invite individuals with dementia and their carers to join our CST sessions and experience the benefits first-hand.
