My career began as a student, where I gained my Level 3 Diploma in Childcare, which was followed by 7 years in a childcare environment, looking after children. During this time, I was also a volunteer with my local church, helping out and getting involved in various activities at a holiday club for the elderly, which I loved.
Unfortunately, the administration work in my childcare role began to take over, which meant spending less time with the children, which was what I really enjoyed. During this time I also became a part time carer for my Gran, who and which inspired my interest in elderly care.
I chose Radfield Home Care, when applying for a care role, as the Radfield culture of treating their care team as family, rather than just work colleagues really stood out, and it was a friend that recommended I pop into the branch for a chat. I also like their ethos of wanting to support and encourage greater independence for their clients.
I love working with our elderly clients and wouldn’t want to move away from this. I am however really keen to improve my knowledge through various training courses, and I know that Radfield really promote, encourage and support NVQ training and development. At some point, I would love to feel I have enough experience to become a supervisor.
Every moment is special, as I know I may be the only person that our clients may see throughout their day. I have also shared a number of special moments with our clients at various coffee mornings, where we have taken them along to an organised event. It’s great to be involved in things like this and seeing our clients enjoy these activities.
It’s great having the care and office team support around me, and I love working in a strong team environment; it feels like one big happy family!
