On Tuesday, 25th February, Radfield Home Care Camden, Islington & Haringey joined thousands of care providers from across the UK in Westminster for the Providers Unite Day of Action. The event highlighted the essential role that care services play in supporting the NHS and helping older people remain independent in their own homes. With an estimated 3,000 to 4,000 attendees, the day of action demonstrated the deep concern within the care community about the urgent need for greater government support.
Home care services are a cornerstone of the health and social care system. Without a properly funded care sector, more people are left without the personalised care they need, leading to longer hospital stays and increased pressure on already overstretched NHS services. Our Care Professionals provide essential support that helps individuals remain at home safely, reducing unnecessary hospital admissions and easing the burden on the healthcare system.
The Providers Unite Day of Action was a powerful reminder of how care providers across the country contribute to the health and well being of countless individuals. It also underscored the need for sustainable investment to allow the sector to continue delivering high-quality care.
Many home care providers are facing significant financial challenges, with rising costs and limited funding from local authority contracts. This has forced some providers to reduce their services, withdraw from contracts, or close their doors entirely. These pressures not only threaten the future of home care but also have a knock-on effect on NHS services, contributing to bed-blocking and delays in hospital discharges.
As a champion for care that people want as well as need, we stand with our fellow care providers in calling for fair funding and meaningful policy change. Adequate investment is essential to ensure that older people receive the personalised care they deserve.
By joining the Providers Unite Day of Action, we sent a clear message to the government that urgent action is needed to secure the future of adult care services. We remain committed to advocating for a more sustainable and supportive environment for the essential work our sector provides.
